Garden Grove Municipal Code 10.56.110(B)(2) is the operative sentence: a commercial vehicle that is also an oversized vehicle may park on a street or highway only when parked temporarily for the purpose of and while actually engaged in loading or unloading merchandise or passengers in connection with the performance of a service to the property adjacent to the curb at which such vehicle is parked. Oversized means over 22 feet long and/or over 80 inches wide.
What we cannot do is get you a city permit for the truck. Garden Grove issues its 72-hour oversized-vehicle permit under 10.56.110(D) to City residents only, for loading and unloading before and after travel, and it only covers parking in front of the applying resident's own address. It is not available to a moving company, and any mover implying otherwise has not read it. Street sweeping is separate again: the city posts residential streets no-parking from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. twice monthly, and an oversized permit does not exempt a vehicle from it (City of Garden Grove, 2026).

Empty anything heavy, fragile or valuable. Light folded clothing can usually stay in a sturdy dresser, but glass, liquids, jewellery and documents should come out, and a drawer full of books will make the piece too heavy to carry safely and can break the frame. Cheap particle-board dressers should be emptied completely, they flex under their own weight once tilted. Tell us at quote time and we will advise per item.

Start with what you do not use daily, books, off-season clothes, decor, spare linen, and leave the kitchen and bathroom to the last few days. If that is not realistic, packing services run on the same hourly structure, and a partial pack covering just the kitchen and fragiles is usually the best value.
Hazardous and perishable goods: propane and other fuels, paint, solvents, aerosols, fireworks, ammunition, pool chemicals, and open or perishable food. Live plants often do not survive a hot truck and some are restricted. We also ask you to carry cash, jewellery, passports, medication and irreplaceable documents personally rather than loading them. If an item is borderline, ask at quote time rather than on the morning.
Yes, ordinary toiletries are fine, they are not classed as hazardous. Pack them upright in a sealed bin or bag rather than loose in a box, because pressure changes and jostling make caps leak. What we cannot take from a bathroom is anything flammable or a strong chemical, such as nail-polish remover or drain cleaner.
Stay available but out of the walking route. The most useful things you can do are point out anything fragile or valuable before it is wrapped, set aside a box of items you want to keep with you, keep pets and children clear of the path, and be reachable for questions about what goes and what stays. Do not carry items alongside the crew, it complicates insurance and it is how people get hurt.
