Ontario's code contains a sentence most cities do not: a large commercial vehicle loading or unloading in a residential district may remain parked for as long as the work takes. For a move, that is the difference between watching a clock and doing the job properly.

Ontario Municipal Code 4-6.1009(h) makes it unlawful to park a large commercial vehicle on a public street or alley in a residential district, with two exceptions: in aid of performing a service on adjacent property, and while loading and unloading goods, where the vehicle is allowed to remain parked until such work is completed. A large commercial vehicle is one exceeding 80 inches in width, 7 feet in height, or 25 feet in length.
One thing we will not tell you is that we can pull the city's oversized-vehicle permit. That permit is for residents, and the code excludes commercial vehicles from it outright. OMC 4-6.1020(c)(1) exempts commercial vehicles from the section, and 4-6.1020(d)(8) requires the vehicle not be licensed, registered or used for commercial purposes. The loading exception is the correct route, and it is the one we use.

Ontario sweeps residential streets on a schedule where each side of a street runs on a different day, and enforcement is by the day and time posted on the sign even if the sweeper has already passed. Citations began on June 2, 2025 at $50, rising to $100 if paid more than 30 days later (City of Ontario, 2026).
That matters on a move because the truck usually sits on one side for hours. We check the posted day for your side of the street against your date before setting a start time. Restrictions are not enforced on the city’s listed holidays, which occasionally makes a holiday move the easiest one to park.

What do movers not recommend to move?
Anything hazardous or perishable: propane, fuel, paint, solvents, aerosols, fireworks, ammunition and pool chemicals cannot go on the truck. We also recommend you carry cash, jewellery, passports, medication and irreplaceable documents yourself. Beyond the rules, we usually advise against moving items whose replacement cost is lower than the labor to move them, old particle-board furniture and half-used consumables are the classic examples.
What to ask movers before hiring?
Five questions settle it. What are your licence numbers? Is the estimate written and is it capped? Is a deposit required? How is drive time billed? And what is the crew and truck you are actually sending?
